RE: My portable low profile satellite dish mount

I made up a PVC stand from the same sight and like you had flex issues. I shortened the legs down (4 leg unit)as much as possible. I then filled the tubes with expanding foam (light weight) It stiffend the unit alot.
I have a square yard stick and a Wal Mart camping compass. It sits on the stick and the 1/2 in markers lines up with the wire site on the compass. I lay the stick across the legs and set the direction keeping the compass away from the metal to avoid a false reading. Once down south the elevation changes minutely. Have used this in Calif,NM,Az,Texas including RGV,Persidio. Going the Fla this year and will see what happens. If we're parked for a week or more I put the stand on the roof or slide off the ground. I have an empty wine bag I fill with water and lay across the legs not that it has ever blown over. I also used bigger knobs in place of wing nuts (HD or Lowes or Ace Except on the clamp. I undo the arm when moving as mine is not folding (Starchoice).

RE: Satellite mount

I have the same as Jaugston only in PVC tubing. It has plastic feet and I put it on one of the slide roofs. I carry a plastic wine bag which I fill with water to lay across the legs not that it has ever blown over yet.

RE: Why does falling oil prices make for tougher times?

-35C in Canada in the winter (includes a few northern states) +65-75 in Fla,Tx.hmmm Just have to get thru Oct/Novemeber and were home free. Although I do kinda like our dollar being near par with the US buck. With the elections over it should be a nice peaceful winter down south.

RE: Anyone attempt a water filter install?

mine came with an undercounter water filter cannister style. I changed the plumbing so it just filters to a single tap for drinking water and I use a ceramic filter there. I also have a cannister one outside that has just a sediment rust filter (cheapos) The water comes from the CG faucet thru the filter and into trailers regular plumbing. This is more to keep crud out of the taps etc. The outside one is removable with quick connects.

RE: First time snowbirds

Hi All,
Being from a bit farther north of Minn. or Wisc (where all your cold air comes from) I have to agree with most of whats said. Turn it down to 45-50,shut off the HW and drain a bit out. and most important..DRAIN THE WATER LINES EMPTY..a friend came home this spring having been in Palm Springs. He hadn't drained his lines and his furnace quit. The house checker left it for 3 days..it went to -50C with windchill. well guess he got a $25,000 suprise when it warmed up the house. All the joints had sprung leaks.
All that was required was to open the laundry tub tap and all the upstairs taps etc for a few mins Turn off the toilet taps and flush and fill with plumbers AF. The house was maybe 10-12 yrs old..
As for the costs lets see..-50C..snow ice snot always chilled vs 70F..sunny shorts beer.
I've done Fla when fuel was a 1.97 a gal. Texas when it was up to 3.00 and AZ,NM, calf. when it was up to 4.00.. Were going to Fla this winter temps only vary 5-15 degrees between nite/day unlike NM and areas of AZ. Gone in Oct back home in April..Did I mention the bitter freezing cold

RE: RVQ Quick Connects

PPCLI,
I have a Broil King and use it directly off my trailers propane system with a quick connect. It's about 120.00 Cdn and does a fair job. Comes with its own legs you can attach. I cut mine down about an inch and I slide the BBq under the slide when it has cooled down. There are others but I can't recall the makes.

RE: Sewer hose weight

Hi,
I make homemade wine and I use the large plastic bags that the concentrate comes in. Fill it with water when you need it dump the water out when you don,t. Bag folds down to nothing and goes into the sewer parts box. I have another one I use on my upside down PVC SAT dish stand. No weight when not needed and takes up no space at all.

RE: Returning to Canada with liquor

I paid 35.00 duty on 1 -40oz bottle of extra rum that cost 8.00 in Progresso,Mx and had Toronto Ont canada on the label. Oh also 5 beers. As well if your bringing in cigarettes don't bring US cigs the duty free only applies to Cdn cigs.. another 35.00 duty/txs. A friend who was over $900 on his limit also had 1 extra bottle of rum. All he paid was duty on the liquor and not the extra goods.

RE: Time to go

we are loitering around in Los Cruces,NM. In the high 70 to 80F. Will meander up to Elephant Butte for 3-4 days then north to Albq.Nm for a few more days.
The midwest is getting hammered with storms and further north snow. My neighbour says to stay south as there is still snow on the ground. They don't call it Winterpeg for nothing. 3 more weeks for us.

RE: 30 amp park power conversion kit

If your dealing with 30 amp a friend re did his. He bought a 45.00 30 amp standard inlet box and a female twist lock plug from CW. His cord was connected inside the rear to a junction box.
He undid the box and twist marettes and wired the female plug to this cord so now he had a detachable cord. He cut a round hole wired the inlet box to it and used some 24 inches of 10-3 wire to get it to the junction box. The plug box contacts are marked as are the wires in the box. Took all of 1/2 hour to do.

RE: mr heater

Best I can figure is they have different standards in Canada. Not much difference between UL and CSA approved. I think Mr heater just didn't want to pay the load for a CSA approval rating. I got a reconditioned MrBuddy (small) at a Sports shop in Sioux falls for 45.00. Label was scratched but the thing works like a charm. Used it all winter (lol) in cal,AZ Tx.. When I get home I'm going to dismantle it and remove the regulator and make a quick connect to see if I can run it off the trailers tanks.
I cut a round hole thru the trailer wall and put 2 sealing cover plates 1 on each side. The tank stays outside and just the hose runs thru the wall.

RE: Titanium 5th wheel trailers

Hi,
We live half time in ours. Oct thru to late April. Have done so for 4 years. Unit is holding up very well. See attached map.
We are also sailors and boat in the summer so don't use trailer in that season. being boaters we tend to lighten up so we have many extra cupboards with little in them. I wouldn't live in an RV in the winter if it got cold (-32F) as they are very inefficient fuel wise and you can only get so much insulation in a 1.5-2 inch wall regardless of who makes it. As well the windows are pretty large and let the cold thru as well. In medium to warmer weather no problem.

RE: Canadian snowbirds returning to Canada - border crossing?

Hi,
As stated depends on the day and the officer. Last year I had to pay duty and taxes on 1 extra 40 oz. bottle of Rum and 6 beers. That rum came from Toronto Ont can. cost me 8.00 in progresso,Mx the duty on that rum/beer was 35.00. Been cheaper to pour it out. As a note also If you bring home cigarettes they better be Cdn from duty free or you will pay duty and excise tax on US brands even though it is within the limit. Cdn butts are taxed at the manufacturer now thats how they did away with smuggling. The smokes cost me another 35.00 for 2 cartons (within limits)
best advice smile be polite answer there question consisely. Don't offer more info than asked for and appear that you know what your doing.
In the old days..(65c to the dollar)they would ask how much in US did you spend. Today at around 1 for 1 you can just say 750 us/Cdn. If you over state you are and by how much. Chances are very good it will slide thru (except liquor and cigs).
As for maintennance ie oil changes etc that isnt considered in your vehicle purchases. They deem that to be regular maintennance. Tire replacement or bolt on additions do have to be declared. If you blew a tire out and had to replace 1 they also don't count that but best have it stated on the bill or have a photo of the blown tire..
In four years we have never had an issue coming home. As stated most smile and say welcome home...

RE: Supplemental heat

Hi,
I use a small electric on low power oscillation..I also use a Mr. Buddy propane heater during the day if it's cool enough. I drilled a 1" hole thru the side wall and put 2 flip up covers over the outside/inside. I can pass a propane hose thru this opening keeping the tank outside. I keep a vent or two cracked. No furnace noise.
As well most electric heaters are noisy but less so than the furnace. We also have a fireplace but use it for the light show more than the heater.

RE: Hot water tank mixer valve?

There is a long discussion on this on the Titanium site.
There have been numerous failures of these valves..I believe on the Atwood heaters. I understand they are expensive to replace.
Someone has suggested that the in line (cold) to the valve be squeezed smaller to lessen the cold water flow. This of course is only if the valve is failing. Others have suggested the valve is clogging due to build ups and needs to be cleaned with Lime away or CLR.
